CODA SCHOOL COMMUNITY TELECONFERENCES UNDERWAY
CODA has begun the exciting process of reaching out to the school communities in the three Health Canada-funded regions of Nunavut, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. Beginning in Nunavut, CODA conducted teleconferences with community principals, vice-principals and other education staff. CODA is very excited to announce that the school communities of Iqaluit, Pangnirtung, Iglooik and Kugluktuk are all on board to receive In-Class Education (ICE) starting in the fall of 2012, with the communities of Arviat and Cape Dorset seemingly not far behind. In Saskatoon, teleconferences are underway with the help of the Saskatoon Health Region Addiction Services Team. We hope to be able to make a similar announcement in the next newsletter about the many Saskatoon schools that will be receiving ICE this fall. Winnipeg teleconferences are still a couple of weeks away but, with the success of the program at Windsor Park Collegiate, other schools have made inquiries into CODA’s comprehensive drug-prevention program.
